Choosing the Best Retriever Dog For Your Hunting

Retrievers really come in three main types available to most hunters. These types are the golden retriever, Chesapeake bay retriever, and the lab. All three of these types have a number of characteristics that can make them the perfect hunting dog for you.

Golden retrievers are great family pets that also double as excellent hunting dogs. They tend to also have a beautiful coat that many hunters will find appealing. This coat will also stand out in the field allowing hunters to be able to pick it out easier than the other types. These dogs are also probably the easiest to train of the three.

Labs are great family pets also. They are very energetic and friendly where only a few are too aggressive for children. Their aggressiveness works well in the field as they make for great bird dogs. They seem to be better performers than golden retrievers even though their black coat does not lend itself to easy detection. They too are also fairly easy to train.

Chesapeake Bay Retrievers do not make for a great family pet because they have a tendency to want to fight. However, for what they lack as a sound family pet, they make up for in the field. They are consistently the best performers of the three types and are by far the best in colder weather climates.

They work well in cold water and really are good at going after ducks and geese. One knock on this type is that they have reputation for not necessarily being the easiest to train when compared to the other two types. Still, they are also the most likely to remain still in quiet while in a blind.

Regardless of which type is chosen, hunters will love that the memory and tracking abilities of these dogs is excellent. They make for beautiful dogs that offer a number of great benefits in the field.

After you have decided on your breed, you will also want to make sure you have a solid Dog Tracking System. One of the most popular options on the market today is the Tracker Classic.
