Chesapeake Bay Retrievers do not make for a great family pet because they have a tendency to want to fight. However, for what they lack as a sound family pet, they make up for in the field. They are consistently the best performers of the three types and are by far the best in colder weather climates.
They work well in cold water and really are good at going after ducks and geese. One knock on this type is that they have reputation for not necessarily being the easiest to train when compared to the other two types. Still, they are also the most likely to remain still in quiet while in a blind.
Regardless of which type is chosen, hunters will love that the memory and tracking abilities of these dogs is excellent. They make for beautiful dogs that offer a number of great benefits in the field.
